The author of this piece took time off his very busy schedule to profoundly investigate and research the goings-on from the State House which is the SEAT of Political Power, right down to every ministry of government.
Indeed, interviews were conducted at all levels from the State House, to all ministers, with mathematical precision and deadly accuracy, with a view to finding and seeking, as well as hunting to know who was and is doing what, and attaches due seriousness and responsibility-mindedness to his or her charge/responsibility.
The Late Corporal Foday Saybana Sankoh firmly believed in becoming President of Sierra Leone by way of, or, through the bullet, rather than through the ballot.
That dishonorable dream of Corporal Foday Sankoh to use the bullet rather than the ballot, to rule Sierra Leone as President did very much indeed, receive the dishonorable grace, favor, planning and plotting; financing and direction of the dishonorable Charles Taylor.
Thus, the next and third person to lead the SLPP in government was erstwhile President, Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, from Friday, March 29, 1996 to Monday, September 17, 2007, when former President Kabbah handed over the presidential ‘Staff’ of office to at present President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, who in his capacity as presidential candidate for the APC party then in opposition, defeated at the polls, Mr. Solomon E. Berewa, who was the presidential candidate for the then ruling SLPP at the Saturday, September 8, 2007 presidential election run-off/re-run.
In short, even in his days and times as the leader of the APC party in the Parliament; when the party was in opposition, President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, had been seen and observed to be exhibiting signs of responsibility-minded leadership, resulting from his able ability and political sagacity.
President Koroma is at present in his second and last term as the President of Sierra Leone, according to the provision of the 1991 Constitution.
Siaka P. Stevens ruled for 17 years and 7 months; that is to say, from April 22, 1968, to November 28, 1985, which was the date he handed over power to Major General Joseph Saidu Momoh.
Stevens was the longest serving head of state for Sierra Leone, but was not seen to use that period to march this country into economic progress and prosperity; instead, his bad governance of Sierra Leone resulted in or led to the civil or rebel conflict in March, 1991, when Major General Joseph S. Momoh was President.
The Defence Minister said that considering the confident and brotherly relationship existing between President Alpha Conde and President Ernest Bai Koroma of the sister Republic of Guinea and Sierra Leone respectively, and mindful of Article 58 of the revised Treaty of the Economic Community of West African States relating to regional security that provides that member states undertake to work to safeguard and consolidate relations conducive to the maintenance of peace, stability and security within the region and to establish and strengthen appropriate mechanisms for the timely prevention
His younger brother, Sir Albert Margai, who succeeded him as Prime Minister , lost the March, 1967 General Election in his capacity as both Prime Minister and leader of the then ruling SLPP to Mr. Siaka P. Stevens, who was the leader of the APC Party, then in opposition, solely because Sir Albert was autocratic intolerant and arrogant.
They, the political thinkers, went further to say that like it used to be before the introduction of the Proportional Representation-(PR) System, which was started in the 1996 Presidential/Parliamentary elections right through to the 2002 Presidential /Parliamentary elections, when MP’s were referred to as members of Parliament for Bonthe North, Bombali Central 1; Kono West; Freetown East3; etc.etc.etc, it was very easy and quick for Sierra Leoneans to identify their MP’s when their districts and constituencies were associated with their identities.
Whilst this political observer, analyst, and commentator, is very soon going to interview the six (6) Cabinet ministers in President Koroma’s government, with a view to ascertaining or verifying the claims that they desperately have their eyes focused on the Presidency, come 2017, reports have begun filtering into the ears of this political analyst that there are at present four (4) very staunch or solidly grounded APC party heavyweights, who shall very soon rear their political heads to make a declaration of intent for the APC party presidential candidacy in the slated May 2013 National De
The President was mildly indignant as he addressed stakeholders on the indescribable degree at which indiscipline, lawlessness and recklessness have sunk so very deeply into the fabric of the Sierra Leonean society; and the Chief Executive pledged to put all his energy into seeing that the virus or germ of the deep-rooted and widespread corruption was prescribed an effective anti-dote; which was the sole reason why the OPERTAION ‘WID’ was conceived, established and founded or launched.
